Make Do And Mend.
Photography this year is different as corona has taken a turn on all our personal lives and school life . there are so many new rules to follow and restrictions to abide to keep people safe.
being in lockdown has given us more time to reflect on our lifestyle as many people have switched up their appearances, styles, mind set, etc. also being in a small area as we can't mix with other bubbles has given us time to take photos and create new things . Photographers have had to compromise with their projects as we can no longer do certain projects which includes cross contaminating.
artists are good at solving problems because if a mistake is made we know how change it and make it into something unique almost as a blessing in disguise as it can change your point of view and make something that wasn’t planned but turn out better than expected.
foe me make do and mend means making your product then looking back and mending any mistakes photography works in different ways its not just picture its more of what you do with the pictures and how you could expand your imagination even physically adding objects to make the picture come to life.

Marcel Duchamp & The Readymade
In todays lesson we started off talking about the Mona Lisa and how it became famous and all its history, we looked at Marcel Diuchop who used a ready made photograph and change the way you look at it by switching round or shredding it then putting it back together to create something new.
i took a portrait and cut it up into rectangles and then sliced them again into triangles however kept it in its original square shape yet different pattern, i took a photo after every step and put them in a stop motion video
this was a piece I cut out circles in different places to piece the photo back together to make it a full photo
Leonardo Di Caprio's famous portrait of mona lisa quickly became one of the most known paintings world wide. one way the painting become an international iconic photo was because on the 21st august 1911 the mona lisa was stolen. no one knew where it was for about 2 years it traveled to multiple different countries ,this is how the people found out about the portrait.
In 1919, artist ,Marcel Duchamp chose to deface the mona lisa on a cheap photographic photo. he drew a beard and mushtashe on her and changed the title. he used a found object and made it his own. people saw what duchamp did and was inspired as so many more people added different features on her. Duchamp' imitation of the mona lisa led to many more people wanting to find out more and people find it funny or a joke |
this lesson the instruction was that I should take everything out of my bag and orginise the items in 3 different ways on my table.

we use photography in our everyday more than we thing we do, for example we could we observing something even if we don’t capture the moment we still think about how good the scenery will look in a photograph. photography allows us to capture a memory and remember how life was
kensuke koike
Kensuke koike is a japanese surrealist artist born in 1980 now living in italy. his work is quite unique ,he makes collages, sculptures and also makes videos . the work created by this artist is uncatorgortised .he takes vintage photographs, postcards, paintings and changes the whole concept of the photo and makes it his own. people enjoy this as its different and beautiful the way he tears, slices, detaching, reataching and creates something new.most of his creations are in black and white. here are some of his work i found intresting.
we did this in the lesson.
in this lesson i took a painting and a something circular to draw circles with so i could cut them out and replace them with the same shape but with a different part of the image
www: the circle placements are different and look out of place which i like
ebi: if i were to redo i would make sure the circles are more neat and proportioned

i took one of these pictures from a magazine and printed it in black and white and in colour . i cut out some of the picture and replaced it with the black and white print.

Hanna Hoch
hanna hoch is a german artist born in 1889. she was part of the berlin dada group which were artists that created work that reflected from their anger and disgust of the first world war. she made famous collages which were meaningful. she used old newspapers and postcards to make different photo montages here i some of her work
Maurizio Anzeri
Maurizio Anzeri is an Italian artist now living in London. His work includes sewing through vintage photos and finishing the piece with colourful thread. I personally love his artwork as it adds so much to a boring old photo. the colours and abstract shapes changes the photograph and creates something new. However some of his work is quite disturbing and creepy
|
in our lesson we recreated our own Maurizio Anzeri inspired work. heres how mine turned out
what went well with this piece of work is that i like how the thread is all lined up and is covering most of his facial hair and the vibrant colours really stand out esspesially because of the black and white backround
even better if i had focused less on the facial hair and maybe had done his clothing with a nice colour

sharron walkers
Sharron Walkers is a London based artist that creates inspiring work. for example she takes photographs of young black women and adds colourful pieces to bring out their beautiful brown pigmentation. she also highlights features like big lips, small noses, curly lashes. big hair. her work is very creative and satisfying to look at.
Matt Lipps
matt lips is an American artist currently living in LA ,his work mainly focuses on sculptures and photography. his pieces show the power of overlapping photographs and how cool it looks .it tells a story behind each piece as there could be a lot of different pictures joined together to make a whole. I personally really like his work as its really creative
here is my interpretation of matt lips work where i cut out parts of the magazine and fill in the blank with other pieces to create and mix matched image
Daniel Gordon
Daniel Gordon is an American artist living in Brooklyn,New York . he makes work using very vibrant colours.this makes his work stand out from other artist. here is one of his images I have chosen to talk about.
I like the contrasting colours in this artwork ,I can see a shadow of a side profile yet the the face isn't a normal face it has different colours which you would not see .the bottom part of the image looks like waves of the ocean this gives an impression of the girl lost at sea

In theses photos i took the image i had cut out and put them in different positions, they are all overlapping each other which makes it look like it fits in, also i have made sure to use framing in the photos so it would look part of the image. i could improve this by maybe using different vibrant colours so my work would stand out and perhaps use different style of images or maybe going for a theme instead of randoms.
Prison Photography
i think prison photography is very interesting as it shows how different life is when you have restrictions that could be life changing. the national lockdown we have been dealing with this past year links to prison life as we are all stuck inside not being able to see our family and friends we also arent allowed to go out to outside places to socialise and connect with other humans, being in lockdown can have a huge impact on your mental health as you rely on yourself and your household to not remind you that you arent alone. photography in prison can be used to rehabilitate inmates by using it as a hobby and learning new things on taking a well structured picture , thi could also improve their mental healths as they are distracted from the world and focusing on creating art. taking photos in a prison can be difficult because theres not much excitement or entertainment however it is very different to the outside world and prehaps inmates dont have same equipment that we have

Project Maurizio Anzeri
this is my ready made mind map at the bottom i wrote what my main 2 ideas were and what one i would like to pursue
this is my attempt at the Maurizio Anzeri photos
www; the thread interrupts the picture and creates some colour and unique shapes
ebi: if i used thin thread which will make it look neater and more professional and create better and sharper shapes
my next task is to use another photograph of a model, use the thin thread and interrupt the image with lines, shapes ect

this is my development piece of work i used thinner thread to show a more sharp and sophisticated image ,i reused the photo used before to show the difference and how much i improved it. the shapes coming out of the eye is like a visual representation of the specks of light entering her eye. i really like this photo because its very satisfying to look at. i enjoyed working with recreating Maurizio Anzeri's work because i found it very therapeutic sewing through the image with repetitive e movements.
Sharron Walkers
for my second idea i decided to focus on Sharron Walkers using photos and scalping tools to cut out parts of a picture. i really like her work as i think the parts that are cut out leave your imagination to figure out the piece thats missing. i also like the patterns you can make with the scalpers .here is my attempts of cutting out patterns and interrupting the images with gaps.
